Meerkat is a proudly South African brand that creates collections of high-end genuine leather handmade products from materials that are sourced locally. Our leather products are exclusively made in our studio in Limpopo, South Africa.

Meerkat was founded in 2016 by Amanda Mostert. After she graduated with a Bachelor of Consumer Science: Clothing Retail Management honours degree at the University of Pretoria she started to make her dreams a reality by starting her own designer leather bag business.

The business was inspired by Amanda’s two family meerkat pets, Kierie and Mierie, therefore the name Meerkat. Each meerkat has their own unique personality and that is what she wants to portray in each leather product she creates. She wants her clients to love and take care of their Meerkat bags as if it was their beloved Meerkat pets.
